Welcome to the Centre for Maasai Development. CfMD is a non-governmental organization working in the drier areas of Laikipia North and Kajiado Districts of Kenya inhabited by the Maasai. The two districts have high poverty levels with the main economic activity of the people being livestock rearing in a nomadic culture. CfMD serves to improve quality of life by offering basic and affordable heath care, childhood immunizations and information on HIV/AIDS education/awareness and care. We promote universal education among underprivileged children so as to enable them to emerge as productive assets in society. CfMD attempts to discourage female genital mutilation(FGM) to enable young Maasai girls to escape early marriages and continue with their education. Our other projects include water and microfinance in an area where there is no collateral. It has been proven that microfinance schemes will enhance people's capacity and accelerate their escape from poverty.
